When we think about a surprise at Christmas, we tend to think about giving someone an unexpected gift. But according to John Killinger in Christmas Spoken Here, Christmas is about other surprises. For example…
“Zechariah and Elizabeth didn’t expect to have a baby in their old age. Mary didn’t expect to become the mother of the Son of God. Joseph didn’t expect to hear that his young bride-to-be was pregnant.
Herod didn’t expect to be disturbed by the word of a Child’s birth. The shepherds didn’t expect to see angels while keeping watch over their flock by night.
The Magi didn’t expect to find the Savior of the world in a manger in a poor little village like Bethlehem. The whole thing was a surprise. God surprised everyone that first Christmas.”
So when this Christmas morning rolls around and you see the look of surprise on the faces of your loved ones, think for a moment about the other surprises of Christmas!
“And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:16)
