Have you noticed? Christmas is just around the corner – when we all will be tempted to go a little crazy with the decorating and the gift-buying. In fact, for many who shop on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, it’s already begun. I read about a new husband who remembered at the last minute that he needed to buy his wife a present. And here it was…Christmas Eve. He tended to be a bit tight and had procrastinated, unable to decide what he would get her. So he went to an upscale department store, walked up the cosmetics counter and asked the clerk to show him some perfumes. She brought out a bottle of $200.00 perfume. He immediately declared that perfume was too expensive. She returned a moment later with a $100.00 bottle of perfume. “Still too expensive” he said. In exasperation, she left and returned a few moments later with a $10.00 bottle of perfume. The man rejected that one as well and said, “I want something really cheap.” So the clerk handed him a mirror.
Truth is, we all need to take a look in the mirror. We need to take a time out from the hustle and bustle and just think about what Christmas really is! It’s not about the decorating or the gift-buying; it’s about a little Baby that was born in a manger so many years ago. God became flesh. I challenge you to take a look into the mirror of your soul and reflect upon that one great Gift that was given!
Isaiah 9:6 says, “Unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given…”
