According to a recent study by the American Bible Society, 8 out of 10 of the most biblically-minded cities in America are located in the South, while 7 out of 10 of the least biblically-minded cities are in the Northeast. The most biblically-minded include Knoxville, Shreveport, Chattanooga, Birmingham, Jackson, and Charlotte. Among the least biblically-minded are Providence, Albany, Burlington, Portland, Hartford, and Boston.
It is pretty clear that we here in Maryland are a part of the Northeast in more ways than just geography. But God has called us as Christians to be a people of the Book. How often do you spend time reading God’s Word, meditating on it, and allowing it to change your life? We cannot expect our region to be biblically-minded if we, as the Christians who live here, aren’t biblically-minded. I challenge you to set the example for those around you. I challenge you to set the example first for those in your family, and then for your friends, and then for others you know.
